One hospitalized after drinking water was contaminated

Sun Feb 05 17:09:00 CET 2023 Timsen

The drinking water of the 'HMS Portland' has become contaminated, and the vessel was diverted to Portsmouth on Feb 3, 2023, after an issue with one of the vessel's freshwater systems. At least one sailor has reportedly been taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, presenting symptoms. The contamination of the water happened after the wrong chemicals were put into it. The mistake was quickly flagged by the individual involved.

Fregate shadowed Rusian frigate and supply ship in the North Sea

Fri Jan 13 11:55:03 CET 2023 Timsen

The HMS 'Portland' has escorted the Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the supply ship 'Kama' in the North Sea, the British navy reported on Jan 12, 2023. The 'Admiral Gorshkov' is on her way to the Mediterranean. The Russian duo now seems to have left the North Sea. The movements of the 'Admiral Gorshkov' are interesting because, according to Moscow, the Gorshkov-class frigate makes the maiden voyage with Zircon hypersonic missiles. These weapons would have a range of 1,000 km. A more important feature of the Zircon is its high speed: Mach 4 to 6, which makes defense extremely difficult. However, it remains uncertain whether the Zircons are actually operational. The 'Admiral Gorshkov' and the 'Kama' departed in early January and were spotted by a Norwegian P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft. The ships continued south where they were picked up by HMS 'Portland' which is part of the permanent NATO squadron SNMG1, which has been under the command of German Commander Marx since Jan 6.
