Cement carrier refloated
First attempts to refloat the "Cemstar" on Oct 12 failed. The ship was lucky enough to habe got stuck on a sandbar between two rocks at the southern tip of Hugla. Divers found no major visible damage to the hull, and no oil leaks were observed. In the evening the ship was finally refloated and berthed in Sandnessjoen at 9.50 p.m. The grounding seems to have been caused by a navigational error as the ship sailed directly towards the island before running aground at 6 p.m. on its voyage to Kjøpsvik in Tysfjord with 19 people on board. Both master and chief officer were Norwegians, the rest of the crew was from Poland and the Philippines. The police went on board for interrogations, but there was no suspicion of alcohol at the helm. Cement carrier aground at Hugla
The "Cemstar", enroute from Trondheim to Kjøpsvik, ran aground on the southern tip of the island Hugla in the early morning of Oct 12, 2016. The ship was resting with the bow on the shore at Jektvik. The rescue center was notified of the incident at 05.56 a.m. The lifeboat "Ruth Opsahl" was sent to the spot, and the police and relevant investigation authorities have been alerted. Divers were on site at 7.45 a.m. and finished their inspection at 10 a.m., finding the hull sound. The low tide was at 9 a.m., and the captain was hoping to get off the ground with the rising tide. The two tugs "Boa Frigg" (IMO: 8714279) and "Boa Tyr" (IMO: 8714267) were dispatched from Sandessjoen at 8 a.m. to assist. There were no reports of leaks nor pollution, and the crew was safe on board. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.an.no/nesna/nord-norge/tv-2/lasteskip-pa-grunn/s/5-4-405868
