Oil rig afloat at first try :- https://www.piersystem.com/go/doc/5507/1674863/Update-27-Kulluk-Refloated-Assessment-to-Follow#.UOq3AG_ZZi0

Kulluk response continuing

Sun Jan 06 12:59:06 CET 2013 Timsen

While the "Alex Haley" continues ist patrol around the grounded "Kulluk", the Unified Command has developed and approved a recovery plan after a series of inspections aboard the rig which continues to remain upright, fuel tanks appeared to be intact, and there was no threat to the stability of the vessel. Also, naval architects have confirmed the structural strength of the vessel was sound and fit to tow. Salvage teams on Jan 5 were aboard the vessel and preparing for the recovery operations. Safety remains the number one priority and will drive all facets of the operation. The exact timing of a potential towing activity is dependent on weather, tides and operational readiness. Once Unified Command confirms that the operation is safe and ready to move forward, the recovery operation will begin. The current plan calls for the "Kulluk" to be towed to Kiliuda Bay for safe harbor – a tow of approximately 30 miles. When the "Kulluk" arrives in Kiliuda Bay, a more detailed assessment will take place. Visit www.KullukResponse.com for more information

US salvage team boards grounded Alaska oil rig Kulluk

Thu Jan 03 11:02:45 CET 2013 arnekiel

A six-member salvage team was lowered Wednesday onto an oil rig that ran aground in Alaska to assess options as the US Coast Guard vowed to prevent any ecological threat, officials said. The team spent three hours on board the oil giant Shell's Kulluk mobile drilling unit after an improvement in weather conditions, which had prevented any such operation since the rig's grounding on New Year's Eve. "Calmer conditions this morning created a window that enabled the assessment to take place," said an updated statement from a Unified Command including the US Coast Guard and Shell. As well as the experts, a Coast Guard helicopter "also delivered a state-owned emergency towing system to the Kulluk, which will be used during salvage operations, it added. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2013/1/3/reutersworld/1301031527-us-salvage-team-boards-grounded-alaska-&sec=reutersworld
