Fri Nov 19 10:01:59 CET 2010 Timsen

The commanding officer of the "Walnut" was scheduled to conduct a news brief Nov 19, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. on Coast Guard Base Sand Island to discuss his ship's recent 173-day patrol to the "Deepwater Horizon "oil spill response in the Gulf of Mexico. During the deployment in the Gulf of Mexico, the crew of the "Walnut" conducted oil spill skimming operations along the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The "Walnut" crewmembers collected a total of 270,000 gallons of oil. While en route to the Gulf of Mexico, the crew freed a sea turtle that was entangled in a fishing net.
