Ran aground in Kerch Strait

Thu Jul 04 03:54:21 CEST 2013 odinfm

LNG tanker JS Chukar a ran aground in Kerch Strait on July 2 13 en route from Istanbul to Kerch, reported local media kerch.fm and kerch.com.ua. Vessel was in ballast proceeding to Kerch for loading LNG shipment bound for Istanbul, calling Kerch on a regular basis. JS Chukar grounded in daytime and was refloated some 6 hours later with the help of tugs. Tanker anchored near the grounding site, reportedly for survey. As of 0100 UTC July 4 tanker was in the same position, anchored near rather heavily trafficked seaway of Kerch Strait, it may be assumed that something is wrong and vessel can’t be moved.
