Dangerous goods container was leaking

Thu Apr 15 10:36:18 CEST 2021 Timsen

In the evening of April 11, 2021, the Yantian Maritime Safety Administration was informed about a leakage of dangerous goods containers on the 'CSCL Saturn' at berth 9 of Yantian Port. After receiving the alarm, the Shenzhen Yantian Maritime Safety Administration immediately followed its emergency plans and epidemic prevention work guidelines for its response. After verification, the leaked dangerous goods box is a transit box with than 16 tons of hazardous chemicals, hydrogen fluoride and tetrafluoroboric acid, which are classified as Class 8 dangerous goods. After on-site assessment, emergency response personnel required the ship to suspend cargo operations, delineate a warning isolation area, evacuate surrounding personnel, and organize capable forces to carry out inspections on the basis of self-protection and treatment of the drip location to prevent leakage. The dangerous goods box was hoisted from board to the dangerous goods disposal site in the port area for further disposal. At 21:38 on the 11th, the leaked dangerous goods box was smoothly hoisted to the shore and transferred to the dangerous goods disposal site in the port area, eliminating the danger and avoiding secondary hazards such as environmental pollution.
