Medevac off Cold Bay

Thu Mar 22 08:59:08 CET 2018 Timsen

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced a 42-year-old man from the "Elpida GR" approximately 65 miles southeast of Cold Bay, on March 21, 2018. Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders received a medevac request from Alaska Vessel Agent for a man suffering from gastrointestinal problems in the evening of March 20. Watchstanders notified the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. The helicopter, forward deployed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter "Stratton", disembarked the ship earlier on March 21 to pre-position in Cold Bay. Once the bulkcarrier, which was coming from Portland, Oregon, had got close enough, the Dolphin helicopter crew conducted the hoist. The man was safely transported to an awaiting commercial air ambulance, in Cold Bay, for transport to a higher level of medical care.
