Bottom touch in Hamburg
In the morning of Nov 2, 2015, the "Sylt" suffered bottom touch in the port of Hamburg. Only some time later a water pollution resulting from the grounding became visible. The ship had meanwhile left Hamburg at 4 p.m. and proceeded to Bremerhaven where it berthed at the Strom Quay on Nov 3 at 6.30 a.m. When police officers boarded the ship then, they remarked, that oil was leaking from the bow region into the Weser and spilt on 800 m². The lost oil could not be recovered. The loss of more oil could be stopped then. The captain had already remarked damage to the bow thruster and oil loss in the hydraulic system when berthing the ship. Investigations were thus launched against the 37 year old Philippino. He had to pay a safety fine of 7000 Euro accordingly. The Police also remarked that there were not as many crew members as required aboard. One man was missing. The ship was detained but meanwhile released and left Bremerhaven on Nov 4 at 2.45 a.m. bound for Copenhagen.
Repairs of grounding damage completed
The "Sylt" left the port of Szczecin where its grounding damage suffered in Rauma had been repaired since Oct 23 on Dec 1 around 5 p.m. The container ship headed towards the Kiel-Canal and transited it westound on Dec 2. The "Sylt" reached Bremerhaven as first port of call on Dec 3 and berthed at the Strom Quay short past midnight, proceeding further to Hamburg at 6.30 a.m. with an ETA of 2 p.m.
Sylt left Rauma following grounding
On Oct 23, 2014 around noon the "Sylt" docked in at the MSR Gryfia S.A. in Szczecin coming from Rauma after some temporary repairs and inspections during cargo discharge. The ship had sailed from Rauma on Oct 20. On Oct 11 at 2.15 a.m. the vessel had got out of the fairway and touched the bottom. One ballast tank on starboard side was breached, and the ship developed a list. It was escorted back to the harbour by the tug "Apollon" and the patrol boat "Uisko". Also a rescue helicopter from Turku had been readied for a possible evacuation of the ship's 13-member crew and the pilot.
