Collision with fishing boat investigated

After the collision of the 'Hakuou Maru' with the 'Tenryu Maru' on Sep 9,t he Japan Coast Guard was conducting a detailed investigation into the incident by interviewing both crew members to determine its cause. The fishing boat's hull was split, and it partially sank in the incident. There were no injuries reported among the tanker's seven crew members as well as the fishermen. The Japan Coast Guard reported a small amount of oil at the scene, seemingly from the fishing boat. The tanker was empty at the time of the incident, and no oil leaked from the the ship, which remained stationary at Kochi for the time being.

Collision off Cape Muroto

The 'Hakuo Maru', en route from Tokuyama to Kochi, was in collision with the Muroto city based coral fishing boat 'Tenryu Maru', with two people on board, about six kilometres south of Muroto-misakim, Cape Muroto, on Sep 9, 2023, at 07.30 a.m. The fishing boat was half sunk with a cracked hull, but the two fishermen from Muroto City were rescued by a nearby fishing boat safe and sound. The Kochi Coastguard started investigating the cause of the incident. The tanker berthed in Kochi the same day.
