Gerd Maersk disabled and drifting in the Atlantic off Porto
Boxship Gerd Maersk suffered an engine failure in Atlantic ocean in position approximately 4128N 009 19E, 45 nm NW of Porto, Portugal, en route from Port Said to Bremerhaven on April 26 2012. Tug Castelo de Obidos was sent to disabled vessel and presumably, is towing Gerd Maersk in western direction away from the shore. Crew is to fix problem by own means. As of 0100 UTC April 27 both vessels were in position 41 32N 009 26E, moving almost due west at 1.5 knots speed. Source: Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc
