Equipment for oil extraction has arrived
On Nov 16, a dredger and other equipment have arrived at the Cua Viet Port, as salvors were preparing to extract the 470 tons of oil from the tanks of the 'Glory Future'. The People's Committee of the Quang Tri province has approved the plan to pump oil from the bulk carrier and transfer it to another vessel. The port authorities will be supervising the process.
Request to drain fuel from tanks
On Nov 11 the Quang Tri Department of Natural Resources and Environment has asked the Provincial People's Committee to request the owner of the 'Glory Future' and related units to urgently drain all fuel from the ship. It was deemed necessary to remove the oil from the ship to ensure environmental safety. The owner said that 510 tons of fuel oil had been transferred from the tanks below the waterline to a safe location at hangar No. 5 on the port side and right side. Currently, the above oil has not been sucked out of the ship.
Bulk carrier refloated
In the evening of Oct 30, the 'Glory Future' was finally refloated by salvage ships. She was anchored in a sheltered area in the waters of Quang Tri province to assess the damage before moving to its destination. The salvage had been hampered by rainy weather, strong waves and high winds.Upload News
