Bulk carrier asked for tug assistance

Wed Sep 30 23:29:42 CEST 2020 Timsen

The Halifax based anchor handling tug 'Venture Sea' (IMO: 9197301) set out from Halifax on Sep 27, 2020, headed towards the Davis Strait between Greenland and Canada in response to a call for assistance from the 'Golden Opal' which was underway with a cargo of iron ore from Milne Inlet, Baffin Island, destined for Immingham. The ship had encountered a steering problem in the Labrador Sea on Sep 26 and was sailing an erratic course.

Pirate attack off Macapa

Sat Apr 07 10:51:31 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Golden Opal", while in position 00 03 52.8 N, 050 58 34 W, six nautical miles northeast of Macapa, was boarded by two robbers armed with long knives, on Apr 4, 2018, at 06.50 a.m. The watch noticed the robbers and immediately informed the duty officer, who raised alarm, sounded the ship's whistle and alerted the crew on the public address (PA) system. Seeing the alerted crew, the two robbers escaped in their speed boat. Following a search of the vessel, nothing was reported stolen.
