Explosion on survey ship in Neustadt
On Apr 12, 2013, an explosion occurred on the "Haithabu". Rescue forces were notified to a fire on the ship at 1 p.m. in the port of Neustadt. A lab worker had alerted them after of exhaust gases escaped from the ship. The fire department stated that the engine room of the ship was obscured. Apparently there had been an explosion in the heating system. The situation was brought under control within 30 minutes. The police Neustadt was on sceneas well as their colleagues from Travemünde with the launch "Greif" and the volunteer fire brigade Neustadt. According to initial findings it could not be excluded that the lack of maintenance at the chimney caused the issue. The amount of damage was not yet known.
