Master arrested for presenting fake documents

Thu Apr 09 20:34:22 CEST 2020 Timsen

The master of the "Haj Sayed 1" was arrested in the afternoon of April 8, 2020 by officials of the Thessaloniki Port Authority, because it was found that he had presented a fake insurance certificate for marine coverage (P&I Insurance) for the ship during a port state inspection carried out by authorized inspectors of the Port Authority. More remarks were made that led to the detention of the cargo ship. The Port Authority, which is conducting a preliminary investigation, also initiated the procedure for the imposition of administrative sanctions. The ship, en route from Alexandria to Aliaga, had suffered an engine failure and sheltered at the Cesme Anchorage since April 6 where the crew carried out temporary repairs. The vessel subsequently resumed its voyage with slow speed.
