Vehicles carrier rescued 303 Sri Lankan migrants

Tue Nov 08 10:03:11 CET 2022 Timsen

The Myanmar-flagged 'Lady R3', en route to Canada with 303 Sri Lankan migrants on board, broke down and went adrift in the South China Sea about 258 nautical miles off South Vietnam's Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on Nov 6, 2022, at around 6 p.m. Its distress call was received by the MRCC Vietnam, which asked nearby ships to help. The 'Helios Leader', en route from Nagoya to Singapore, diverted to the position and reached the 'Lady R3' on Nov 7 and rescued all 303 would-be migrants between 3.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. The vessel proceeded to the anchorage in Vung Tau, where it moored in the morning of Nov 8 to hand over the castaways to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau authorities.
