Gillnetter severely damaged in grounding
On Oct 8, 2018, at 2 a.m. the “Izel Vor II” suffered water ingress after having run aground at the foot of the citadel of Port Louis. The gillnetter was fishing off the coast of Groix. None of the four sailors was hurt. The ship suffered a leak at the starboard side bow, and the keel was severely damaged. The CROSS Etel was alerted and triggered the SNSM-boat from LocmiquélicWitt the rising tide, the gillnetter started to move on the rocks, and finally the “Hermine” could refloat the vessel which was towed to the fishing port. The water level inside was 10 centimeters, when the ship berthed at a mooring pontoon. Two divers were called to survey the extent of the damage under the hull. They found a gap of 20 cm by 10 cm and keel damage on two meters length. As there was no personnel at the Keroman repair area at night, the ship could only be lifted at 8 a.m.
