Hunte re-opened

Thu Sep 22 09:23:35 CEST 2011 Timsen

After remaining debris such as hatches and the rudder were recovered from the Hunte by the work boat "Harriersand", and the embankment was repaired, the river was reopened for all ship traffic on Sep 22 at 8 a.m. On Sep 21 at 3.40 a.m. a tug had pulled the "Janine" back into the shipping lane after a first attempt had failed by 8 p.m. on Sep 20 due to fears the ship might suffer more cracks. But the dent in the hull righted itself when the stern was raised by the "Triton". Before, the m/v "Harriersand“ had dredged away earth of the embankment around the bow. The ship could then be pulled around and was able to float without further assistance. The vessel was then towed to Oldenburg and moored off the lock where it will be thoroughly surveyed by experts of the Central Vessel Inspection Commission (ZSUK). Additionally, employees of the ship's insurers are aboard the freighter to decide where the ship is worth a repair. The THW obtained the booms and other material in Neuenhuntorf on Sep 21 after the salvage work was done.
