World's latest large ro-ro box ship delivered

Mon Mar 02 21:45:27 CET 2015 arnekiel

The STX Offshore & Shipbuilding shipyard in Jinhae, South Korea, has announced the delivery of ro-ro container vessel Jolly Cobalto to Italian shipping company Ignazio Messina & Co, IHS 360 reports. The new vessel, claimed by Messina to be largest such vessel in the world, will be Italian-flagged and will make its maiden voyage with ro-ro cargo to Europe before beginning to operate on Messina's regular service between Mediterranean ports, the Red Sea and Middle East destinations. This vessel is a sister of ro-ro Jolly Titanio, delivered in November 2014, and is part of a series of four ro-ro container ships STX-Jinhae is building for delivery by mid-2015. Jolly Titanio and Jolly Cobalto will be joined Jolly Vanadio and Jolly Palladio, as part of the second phase of a USD500 million development plan by Genoa-based Messina. A previous set of four vessels was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and were in service at the beginning of 2012 within Messina Line's services. Jolly Cobalto is 240 m long by 37.50 m wide; with 3.900 teu capacity. It has 6.350 lane-metres of ro-ro cargo capacity. Service speed is 21.5 kt. It is fitted with a scrubber for exhaust emissions control to enable it to meet limits when operating inside an ECA. Italian classification society RINA has given the ship Greenplus certification. http://www.ihsmaritime360.com/article/16870/world-s-latest-large-ro-ro-box-ship-delivered
