Ferry sank during salvage

Tue Oct 18 21:28:20 CEST 2022 Timsen

Indonesian salvors tried to salvage the 'Sabuk Nusantara 46' after sealing an underwater hull breach, but shortly after the ferry was pulled off the beach on Oct 16, it developed a list and sank in shallow waters at a water depth of 5-6 meters, so the wreck remained partially above water.

Investigation into grounding underway

Tue Oct 04 09:32:47 CEST 2022 Timsen

Local authorities have interrogated the crew of the KM 'Sabuk Nusantara' as a part of their investigation. One of the crew members stated that the engine had not been damaged before the shio ran aground, whereas strong winds and high waves contrubuted to the accident. The salvage operations have also been hampered by bad weather conditions.

Water ingress delays salvage

Sun Oct 02 21:06:46 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'Sabuk Nusantara 46' which had run aground following engine problems at the Pasar Pino Beach, Pino Raya District, South Bengkulu Regency on Sep 27, has suffered water ingress, which delayed the refloating of the vessel. A technical team from Jakarta was dispatched to repair the leak and will also check other parts of the vessel to ensure its condition, such as the engine.
