Purse seiner sank fishing boat

On Sep 27, 2021, at 2 p.m. the 'Koroglu Balikcilik-1' suffered an engine failure and allided with the 'Voli' which was berthed in the Bozahane port in Zonguldak's Ereğli District. While no one was injured in the incident, the wooden boat broke into pieces and sank. The accident happened when the purse seiner was about to dock but got out of control, slamming into the port side of the other vessel, the crew of which saved their lifes by jumping into the sea. Slight structural damage was noted on concrete blocks of the pier. A pollution was noted from partially sunken wooden fishing boat to the sea. An incident investigation file was placed by Harbour Master to ascertain the extent of damages and cause of the incident. The vessel has been imposed a fine by Harbour Master due to a breach of safe navigation regulation. The departure permission has been temporarily cancelled until the completion of incident investigation formalities.
