Fire in Tuzla

On the night of March 27, 2026, a fire broke out on the 'Kybele' at the Kuzey Star Shipyard in the Tuzla district of Istanbul. The fire was observed rising from the storage room in the ship's foredeck and quickly intensified. Upon detecting the smoke, the crew evacuated safely with the assistance from shipyard personnel. Emergency response teams, including fire-fighting crews, police, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), and medical units, were dispatched to the scene. After approximately two to three hours of coordinated efforts by the emergency teams, the fire was brought under control and successfully extinguished. While the teams worked intensely to bring the fire under control, security measures were increased around the shipyard. WAfter the blaze was under cobtrol, they continued their cooling efforts. Crew member fatally electrocuted

On Dec 7, 2025, at 5.50 p.m. fatal accident has occurred on board the "Kybele," which was moored in the port of Durres with a cargo of wheat. The 24-year-old crew member Avaz Yafaro from Azerbaijan died after coming into contact with electricity while performing his duties. An ambulance arrived quickly, and the victim was taken to the emergency room of a hospital in Durres, but died en route despite all efforts to save his life. The investigation team was working to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
