Ship permitted to enter port of Charleston

The 'Laust Maersk' left its anchorage and berthed ni the port of Charleston on Nov 8 after smoke development in one of the cargo holds which occurred on Nov 5, while the vessel was en route from Charleston to Cartagena. Safety procedures were immediately implemented when the smoke was discovered, and the ship remained in a stable condition, while the authorities and technical teams carried out extensive inspections. No injuries were reported. The 'Laust Maersk' remained stationary in port as of Nov 10.

Container ship returned to Charleston after cargo fire

The 'Laust Maersk' was being held off Charleston, South Carolina, after smoke was seen in one of the cargo holds. The vesselhad departed Charleston for Cartagena on Nov 5, 2025, when the smoke was reported. The ship was operatung on a route including Port Everglades, Newark, Baltimore, Charleston, Cartagena and Manzanillo.The vessel was in a stable condition and no injuries were reported. The ship returned to the anchorage off Charleston on November 6, where it was undergoing thr necessary inspections and safety protocols to assess the situation on board. Once the inspection have been completed and approvals given, Maersk expected the 'Laust Maersk' to berth, so that the affected containers could be discharged.

Collision in Alboran Sea

The ferry “Nápoles”, 23975 (IMO: 9243423), which covers the Malaga-Melilla de Balearia line, suffered a collision on March 12, 2022, at 03:00 a.m. with the “Laust Maersk”, which was en route from Algeciras to Taranto with an ETA as of March 14, in the waters of the Alboran Sea. One container got stuck next to the port side bridge wing the ferry and it had serious damages at the port side bow. No personal injuries have been reported. The accident has been reported to the Almeria MRCC, and the protocols established for these cases have been activated. The “Nápoles”, which will be replaced by her sister ship “Sicilia”, arrived in Melilla at 06:30 a.m., and after disembarking the passengers, work was now being done to remove the container and assess the damage before the damage will be repaired at a shipyard.
