Crew member tested positive for Covid-19

Ferry operator CalMac has cancelled several sailings of the 'Loch Portain' from Berneray to Leverburgh after a crew member on board tested positive for Covid-19, while departing Berneray on Oct 15, 2021. The vessel returned to service after reviews in the afternoon of Oct 16.

Coastguard assisted unwell crew member

An unwell crew member of the 'Loch Portain' which was operating between Harris and North Uist required the assistance of two Coastguard rescue teams in the afternoon of Nov 25, 2016. The Coastguard got a call around 1.10 p.m. for the teams in Benbecula and Griminish to assist in transferring the patient from the CalMac vessel into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. The incident concluded around 3.05 p.m.

Repairs of grounding damage completed

The "Loch Portain" returned on its normal crossing over the Sound of Harris after having experienced a grounding incident on Oct 1. The ferry was withdrawn for repairs in drydock, and a relief vessel covered the route. In an investigation by a dive survey carried out by the Northern Lighthouse Board it was established that the vessel had brushed an uncharted reef inside the channel.
