Tanker stuck off Istanbul

Fri Jun 19 09:01:52 CEST 2015 Timsen

Enroute from Kerch to Pascagoula on June 18, 2015 in North-South direction, the loaded "SCF Khibiny" got stuck in the Ahırkapı district at 10.09 a.m. The tanker which was fully loaded with 150,000 tonnes of crude oil tanker was warned by authorities that it was headed into shallow water before it ran aground. No pollution was reported to the Istanbul vessel traffic center which dispatched the lifeboat "Kıyı Emniyeti and the tug "Kurtarma 7" to assist. The dive team of Alesta Dalgıçlık surveyed the grounding site and found the ship resting on a soft sand and clay bottom with the foreship and with no apparent damage to the hull. At 05.30 a.m. on June 20 the tanker refloated with own means. In order to refloat the ship, some 4.000 tons of cargo was transferred from forward section to the aft section of the ship.According to the ship's Istanbul agent, the Transbosphor Shipping Agency, which successfully coordinated the process, the vessel had no damage in the bottom. It was moored in the western part anchorage off Bakirkoy, escorted by two tugs.
