Disabled ship towed to Syros

The "Michalis"with a crew of nine on board suffered a mechanical failure and was disabled on Sep 9, 2019, at 11.40 p.m. nine miles south of Syros island in the Aegean Sea. The ship en route from Lavrion to Limassol with a cargo of stones. It was taken in tow by the tug "Kapetan Christos" and the police boat "Leon I", scorted by a patrol boat of the Greek Coast Guard, in the morning of Sep 10, and towed to safe waters near the eastern coast of Syros and moored for repairs in pos 37° 25.05' N 024° 58.52' E. During an inspection a malfunction of the main engine cooling system was found, and the Syros Port Authority bannedthe ship from sailing until the repair of the damage and the submission of a class certification by the relevant classification society.
