Master medevaced off Terceira island

The "Minerva Gloria" had to interrupt the voyage from Maracaibo to Hamburg and diverted towards the Azores, after the 47-year old Greek master fell seriously ill and was in need of immediate medical assistance. The tanker was 420 kilometers southwest of Terceira Island. In the afternoon of Feb 24, 2019, the patient was medevaced by an EH.101-Merlin helicopter of the751 Squadron of the Portugal Air Force in challenging weather conditions with winds of 12 meters height and 74 km/h wind speeds. The captain was successfully hoisted and transferred to a hospital in Ponta Delgada. A P-3C CUP aricraft of the Squadron 601 'Lobos' was also deployed.
