Collision off Wenzhou

Wed Mar 13 10:50:29 CET 2019 Timsen

The "Ming Zhou 66" was in collision with the gravel carrier "Hong Cheng Yun 3" off Wenzhou in the East China Sea on March 12, 2019, at 11.15 a.m. The gravel carrier struck the bulk carrier at starboard side in the cargo holds area. The bow ramp of the "Hong Cheng Yun 3" collapsed onto the deck of the bulk carrier which suffered a hull breach with ensuing water ingress. It developed a list to starboard side, while the ships remained stuck together and the situation became critical. SAR ships and tugs were deployed for the salvage, and after five hours the ships were separated and the water ingress brought under control. The "Ming Zhou 66" was towed to the Wenzhou South Channel and anchored off Zhuangyuan island, the "Hong Cheng Yun 3" reached its port of destination Tai Zhou.
