Medevac off Port Elizabeth

Tue Apr 04 09:58:30 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Apr 3, 2017, the NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew was activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for a sailor suffering abdominal pains to be evacuated off the "MSC Laurence", sailing from Durban to Port Elizabeth’s Port of Ngqura in the afternoon. The lifeboat "Eikos Rescuer IV" was launched, accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic, and rendezvoused with the ship 10 nautical miles off-shore from Port Elizabeth, and the EMS rescue paramedic and an NSRI rescue team were put aboard the vessel. The patient, a 61 year old Indonesian sailor, was stabilised and transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought to our sea rescue station and he has been transported to hospital by an EMS ambulance in a stable condition.
