Polish crew member of hazard tanker got arm into winch

Tue Jul 03 09:23:30 CEST 2012 Timsen

On July 2, 2012, the KNRM-lifeboat "Uly" was called for a medevac from the "Cristallo" which was underway from Antwerp to Rotterdam. A Polish crew member had got into a winch with an arm and suffered an open fracture of the forearm. The Coastguard called and ambulance, and the staff went aboard the "Uly" and speeded to the tanker position. Within 10 minutes the lifeboat was alongside, and two of its crew members as well as the ambulance staff boarded to treat the man who was lying in a stretcher on the deck. After stabilization by paramedics he was hoisted by a crane onto the deck of the "Uly" which returned to the station where the victim was transferred into the ambulance and rushed to the hospital.
