Cargo ship breached off Astara

Fri Dec 21 09:40:18 CET 2018 Timsen

In the southwestern Caspian sea near the entrance of the port of Astara the "Nargol" got in distress on Dec 20, 2018. The ship had left the port around noon bound for Azerbaijan. Under unknown circumstances, maybe a collision, it was breached and suffered water ingress. Iranian Maritime Authorities and Navy units were trying to rescue the crew and salvage the ship. Two tugs were deployed to assist. Iranian rescue teams managed to tow the ship to Astara where it was safely berthed at a pier in Astara. The vessel was destined for Baku and carrying 2,000 tons of ceramic tile. The "Nargol" arrived at Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Jan 22 at 12.35 p.m.
