Bulk carrier detained for pollution
The 'Neptune Star' was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Police (MMEA) on March 5, 2021, and taken to Pangkor island inside the Malacca Strait, where it was anchored in pos. 04° 10.43' N 100° 32.45' E. The Malaysian authorities suspected the bulk carrier in illegal dumping of oiled water while transiting the Perak State waters in northwest Malaysia. The ship was en route to from Singapore to Langkawi. The alleged pollution was spotted by a surveillance aricraft. An investigation was launched, and samples were taken to determine pollution source.
