Tug disabled off Shetlands

Sat Jan 17 15:17:50 CET 2015 Timsen

The Aith lifeboat and the Coastguard SAR helicopter 102 have been launched to assist the "Northern Viking" that lost power a few miles off the southwest corner of Shetland mainland. The crew of three alerted Shetland Coastguard on Jan 17, 2015, at 10.40 a.m. The tug was seven miles northwest of Fitful Head. The helicopter and the fishing vessels "Alison Kay" and "Radiant Star" reached the casualty followed by the lifeboat at 12.30. The "Northern Viking" was enroute from Scalloway to Lerwick when her engine failed. The crew managed to restart her engine and proceeded to Lerwick. Shetland Coastguard ´made hourly checks on the progress of the tug until she had arrived in Lerwick.
