12 seamen (not paid since April) want to flee from detained ship

Wed Jun 29 08:26:03 CEST 2011 arnekiel

PORT KLANG: Twelve seamen stranded on a detained vessel for over two months are threatening to abandon ship and their captain, alleging they have not been paid wages since April, The Star reports. They want to flee from the MV Prince of Ocean, anchored off Northport here, because they are worried they will face the same fate as the MV Banga Biraj crewmen. (In the Banga Biraj case, 13 Bangladeshis returned home after being stranded without wages for nine months). The 11 Romanian and one Filipino crew of the Prince are claiming they had been given false hopes on their wages and their repatriation. The Panama-registered ship arrived at Northport on April 24 and was arrested by the KL Admiralty Court after the vessel had allegedly defaulted on a RM55.9mil loan it owed to British-based Postcriptum Renewable Fuels LLC. The cargo owners had to obtain a court order to discharge the US$35mil (RM108.5mil) worth of soya bean animal feed it was carrying after the crewmen went on strike.
