Eight migrants off Dunkirk rescued
On May 13, 2021, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed by the Belgian rescue services that migrants were in difficulties in their boat, which was taking water, off Dunkirk. The CROSS deployed a Dauphin helicopter of the French Navy to locate the boat. The VCSM 'Escaut', upon arrival in the area, took the eight castaways on board. They were brought back to Dunkirk at noon where they are taken care of by the border police.
33 migrants rescued by two boats
On May 11, 2021, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed that two migrant boats were in difficulty. The border police reported a boat stranded on the breakwater near the Malo-les-Bains dyke. The CROSS immediately mobilized the VCSM 'Escaut' to provide assistance. On arrival on scene, she took on board 29 castaways, including five women, on board. They were dropped off at 7:00 a.m. at the port of Dunkirk and then taken care of by the firefighters from the departmental fire and rescue service. The CROSS also received a call from the ferry 'Côte des Flandres' reporting a boat in difficulty seven miles off Calais. The lifeboat 'SNS 077-Notre-Dame-de-Risban' of the SNSM station in Calais was mobilized to assist and rescued the four castaways on board. They were dropped off in Calais at 9:36 a.m. where they were taken care of by the fire brigade and border police.
Escaut rescued 17 migrants in two missions
On May 2, 2021, the CROSS Gris-Nez wass informed that two migrant boats were in difficulties in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais. The CROSS Gris-Nez was first notified by the 'Escaut', then on patrol,that a boat was troubled off Calais. The CROSS requested the patrol boat to provide assistance. The 15 castaways were taken on board and dropped them off at the port of Calais for support by the firefighters and the border police. At the same time, the patrol boat 'Jacques Oudart Fourmentin' reported another boat in difficulty off Calais. The crew recovered two castaways. They were transferred onto the 'Escaut' and also dropped off in Calais to be taken care of by the border police.Upload News
