Attack on cargo ship foiled

Tue Mar 07 18:03:00 CET 2017 Timsen

Assistance from the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) saved the "Phu An 268" that was at risk of robbery or kidnapping while plying through Philippine waters on Mar 5, 2017, at 4 p.m. The ESSCom detected emergency radio signals through Channel 16 from the ship. The captain informed that while travelling in the waters off Boan Island in the Philippines, the crew detected a boat with six people trailing it in a suspicious manner and tried to intercept it. The captain then increased speed and changed direction to head towards Malaysia. The ESSCom sent a Viper patrol boat and the "Sri Tiga" to the Malaysian maritime boundary to find and escort the cargo ship to Sandakan Port. The quick action of themaster in getting assistance made it easy for ESSCom to mobilise its assets to foil the attackers.
