Tanker ran on rocks on Main

Thu May 30 21:48:33 CEST 2013 Timsen

On May 30, 2013, the "Pilator" being loaded with 1900 tonnes of fuel oil on board has run aground on the Main during a turning maneuveron the east side of the shoreat the East port of Frankfurt. The ship was heading backwards into the basin to unload ist cargo, but the ship was pushed out of the fairway and got firmly stuck on the Kaiserlei rocks. No fuel oil has leaked out of the double hulled ship. The tanker was salvaged by a tugboat which was called from Bingen by the Water and Shipping Authority in the evening. The ship was pulled off within a few minutes and went smoothly. For this time the waterway was closed for other ships. The Police was investigating whether the accident was caused by a fault of the Dutch Skipper, but also strong river currents may have contributed to the grounding.
