Grounding on the Wester Scheldt

The "Rio 4" (IMO: 6724737), ran aground on the Wester Scheldt in the morning of Jan 23, 2019, in pos. 51° 23.38' N 003° 36.37' E enroute from Terneuzen to Temse. The accident happened during the outgoing tide at 7.55 a.m. in the fairway at the Hoofd Plate near Magereind. The KNRM lifeboat "Zeemanshoop" of the station in Breskens was on scene short time later, followed by the tug "Multrasalvor 3" (IMO: 9635975) and the patrol boat "RWS 73" of Rijkswaterstaat. With the rising tide, the ship refloated with own power and was inside the Terneuzen locks by 4 p.m. The dredger left the port of Terneuzen on Jan 24 at 5.30 p.m. and resumed the voyage to Temse.
