Engine failure in Brunsbüttel

Fri Jun 28 09:12:11 CEST 2019 Timsen

After its departure from Hamburg on June 28, 2019, at 4.10 a.m. bound to Frederiksværk, the "Rix Eleonora" suffered an engine failure upon leaving the old southern lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel at 7.25 a.m. prior to its eastbound transit. The tug "Bugsier 19" was called to assist and towed the ship through the locks to the railway station pilings in the inner port of Brunsbüttel where it was moored short time later for investigations. The ship resumed its voyage to Frederiksværk at 5.40 p.m. the same day with an ETA as of June 29, 8 p.m. now.

Collision with fairway buoy on the Elbe

Tue Nov 29 08:50:16 CET 2016 Timsen

On Nov 27, 2016, around 6 p.m. the "Rix Eleonora", underway from Vierow to England, suddenly veered off course short time after having left the great Southern lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel following the westbound transit. It ran over a fairway buoy at port side on the Elbe fairway and became unmanoeverable in the consequence. The ship went adrift on the Elbe. First ship to assist was the multi purpose vessel "Neuwerk". Also the tugs "Wal" and "Parat" were alerted and pulled the "Rix Eleonora" to an anchorage on Brunsbüttel roads. Possibly the propeller and rudder had suffered damage in the collision with the buoy. The police boat "Bürgermeister Brauer" was sent for investigations. The ship was released on Nov 29 and underway off Wangerooge with a speed of seven knots around 7 a.m.
