The "Sigrid" has left the Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd. in Vigerö on Apr 30 at 9 a.m. bound for the Baltic Sea for orders. The nuclear waste carrier had left the port of the power plant in Barsebäck after thorough surveys and reached Vigerö on Apr 14.

Nuclear waste carrier aground off Barsebäck

Fri Apr 08 10:34:08 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Apr 8, 2016, at 8:13 a.m. the "Sigrid", having a pilot on board, ran aground on its way into the harbour of the nucelar power plant Barsebäck. The vessel is being used for transporting nuclear waste from the closed nuclear power plant, but was unloaded. It got stuck in the Saltviken, about 500 meters of the shore. The ship reported to the VTS center in Malmö that there were no dangerous goods on board. The police was alerted at 8.41 a.m. The "Sigrid" was stuck northeast of the entrance road and was then waiting a ship of the Transport Agency with an inspector on board from Malmö. The Coast Guard was immediately informed about the incident too. Short time later the "KBV 034" of the Swedish Coastguard, the tug "Kullen" (IMO: 7527875) and the lifeboat "Rescue B. Danielsson" were on scene. Also the "KBV 309" was headed for the disabled vessel. In addition, an aircraft of the Swedish Coast Guard took off from Skavsta to make an overflight in the morning in order to detect any emissions. At the site, the Coast Guard planned to conduct a ground survey with the help of divers to evaluate the hull and its position on the bottom. Weather in the area was fresh southwesterly winds of 5-6 m/s. The "Sigrid" has now been refloated by the tug "Sound Provider" (IMO: 9364538) and was moored off the port in the Lomma Bay for inspections with the buoy lighthouse vessel "Dunker" (IMO: 8701014) alongside and the "KBV 432" and "Kullen" still on standby. During the afternoon, divers aboard a Coast Guard vessel checked the hull without finding any significant damage but only superficial scratches which could be related to the grounding, so the environmental rescue operation was terminated for the Coast Guard's part. The survey was finished at 3 p.m. There was nothing that affect the ship's maneuverability or likely to lead to pollutions.
