Fire damage being investigated
The "Stadt Dresden" was again under its own power and operational on Feb 17. The ship remained moored at the Vedon Terminal in the port of Venice where experts will be conducting a full assessment of the damage. A superintendent of Ahrenkiel Steamship joined the vessel on Feb 17. The discharge of the loaded 800 units of containerized cargo was completed on Feb 20. Repairs to the electrical systems damaged by fire were expected to be completed on Feb 28. The ship left the port on March 2 at 9 a.m. It was next bound to Koper, where it berthed at 11.50 p.m., before proceeding to Rijeka and Ancona.
Fire in Venice
On Feb 16, 2019, at 1.45 p.m. a fire broke out in a compartment with four generators inside the engine room of the "Stadt Dresden" at dock b of the container terminal in Porto Marghera, Venice. The engine room was sealed and filled with CO2. More than 30 firefighters with eight teams from Venice, Mestre and with the marine personnel of Marittima were engaged in extinguishing the fire. The crew was evacuated, the fire was put out around 5 p.m. and the rooms then ventilated, cooled and monitored for remaining hotspots with a thermal camera. Allision off Piraeus
At the Piraeus anchorage the ferry "Kapetan Christos", coming from Nisos Naxos, was in allision with the "Stadt Dresden" on Sep 25, 2018, at 7.30 p.m. Both ships suffered minor damaga. The "Kapetan Christos" with 9 crew members aboard, carried 11 trucks with their drivers and was headed for Piraeus, while the "Stadt Dresden" with 21 crew members on board was unloaded and had anchored off Piraeus in pos. 37° 51.28' N 023° 30.40' E after having sailed from Damietta on Sep 23. The "Kapetan Christos" resumed the voyage soon after the accident, called at Piraeus and left for Elevsis, where she arrived on Sep 26.Upload News
