Nine stowaways found in container

Sat Jun 22 00:35:30 CEST 2019 Timsen

The crew of the "Stadt Dresden" found nine stowaways hidden in a container who supposedly boarded the ship at Casablanca, intending to get to Europe. After the container ship arrived at Piraeus anchorage on June 20, 2019, the authorities were duly informed on presence of illegal persons on board. The Greek Coast Guar interrogated the stowaways and found out, that they weren’t after Greece but planned to disembark in another European country. The next port of call will be Zeebrugge. The stowaways were provided food and water as well as medical supervision by a private physician. Two of them were transferred to a private clinic for medical care. The master informed the Port Authority that he was unable to keep the men on board. In the morning they were brought to the Security Department of the Piraeus Port Authority where they were arrested.

Mon Feb 18 10:27:57 CET 2019 Timsen

The "Stadt Dresden" was again under its own power and operational on Feb 17. The ship remained moored at the Vedon Terminal in the port of Venice where experts will be conducting a full assessment of the damage. A superintendent of Ahrenkiel Steamship joined the vessel on Feb 17. The discharge of the loaded 800 units of containerized cargo was completed on Feb 20. Repairs to the electrical systems damaged by fire were expected to be completed on Feb 28. The ship left the port on March 2 at 9 a.m. It was next bound to Koper, where it berthed at 11.50 p.m., before proceeding to Rijeka and Ancona.

Fire in Venice

Sat Feb 16 20:53:57 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 16, 2019, at 1.45 p.m. a fire broke out in a compartment with four generators inside the engine room of the "Stadt Dresden" at dock b of the container terminal in Porto Marghera, Venice. The engine room was sealed and filled with CO2. More than 30 firefighters with eight teams from Venice, Mestre and with the marine personnel of Marittima were engaged in extinguishing the fire. The crew was evacuated, the fire was put out around 5 p.m. and the rooms then ventilated, cooled and monitored for remaining hotspots with a thermal camera. The port operations had to be interrupted for some time, but meanwhile resumed. Italian report with photo: https://it.euronews.com/2019/02/16/incendio-colpisce-nave-a-venezia
