Swinemünde towed to Rendsburg
The "Swinemünde" was taken alongside by the tug "Saatsee" on Dec 5 and taken to the Saatsee Yard in Rendsburg for surveys. The wheelhouse was dented, the windows which were made of special glass all destroyed, railings and barriers damaged as well as the hull. It could not yet be ruled out that the 50 year old 29-m-ship might become a CTL at the end. Meanwhile divers in vain searched for a lit piling sunk by the "Kitty C" at the ferry pt. Fischerhütte.

Ferry Swinemünde hit by freighter 'Kitty C' at ferry-point Fisherhütte in Kiel-Canal
A cargo ship has got out of control in the Kiel Canal and forcefully rammed a ferry. People were not injured in the accident near Brunsbüttel, said a spokesman of the water police. The 100 meter long cargo vessel "Kitty C." was reported to be directly on the pier of ferry station Fischerhütte. At the last second the crew of the "Swinemünde" save their lives with a jump ashore. The force of the collision was so strong that the bridge of the ferry house was bent to the side. A number of mounting piles at the jetty was pressed with lighting under the ferry. The ferry had been badly damaged and went to repair in the shipyard. The cargo ship had only light damage above the water line and was able to continue on. Cause of the accident was human error, according to initial investigations. (vor < 1 Min, von arnekiel )Upload News
