Engine room fire off Stavanger

Fri Aug 08 13:01:17 CEST 2025 Timsen

The "Tali", ballasting from Cuxhaven to Tau, has dropped anchor off Stavanger, after a fire broke out in the engine room at Sola northwest of Faistein l/h on Aug 7, 2025, at 8.48 p.m LT. There was a crew of 14 aboard the vessel, which was moored in pos 58,49,58 N 05,28,42 E. A pilot boat of the Norwegian Coastal Administration, a police boat and some civilian ships went on standby in case the situation deteriorated. At 10:10 p.m., a team of special trained firefighters was dropped off on board with a rescue helicopter from Sola. Just before 11.00 p.m. the situation was fully under control: The pilot boat thereupon left the scene again. The shipping company has requested the tugs 'BB Coaster' (IMO: 9502685) from Haugesund and ''Boa Balder' (IMO: 9462342), which arrived at the scene on Aug 8 shortly past 1 a.m. The 'Tali' was to be towed to the port of Stavanger, starting at 6.50 a.m., where it was safely berthed at Mekjarvik at 9.45 a.m. UTC. There were no reports of injuries among the crew, but one crew member was taken ashore by helicopter for a check-up due to possible smoke inhalation.
