Valencia refloated

Tue Nov 05 18:50:53 CET 2013 Timsen

On Nov 5 the "Valencia" was refloated after having been lightered. Due to damages suffered in the grounding, the ship was detained for repairs of engine and bow thruster for which a company has already been contracted. The casualty was pulled back to the lock of Straubing where it docked.

Grounded cargo ship to be lightered

Tue Nov 05 09:16:19 CET 2013 Timsen

Five days after its grounding on the Danube at Reibersdorf in the Straubing-Bogen provinciality the "Valencia", which has on board 1700 tons wood pellets, was to be partiallylightered and pulled off in the foremidday of Nov 5 by a pusher tug. Since the ship got stuck on a gravel bar, ship traffic between Straubing and Deggendorf was being hampered, ships could only pass in one way traffic. Grounding on Danube

Thu Oct 31 21:49:09 CET 2013 Timsen

On Oct 31, 2013, at 07.30 a.m. the "Valencia" ran aground on a gravel bar on the Danube at Reibersdorf. The ship was carrying 1700 tons wood pellets and was sailing Downstream. While passing a ship being underway upstream, it got onto the left river side. The ship traffic on the river had to be stopped temporarily, but as the ship got stuck at the edge of the fairway ships meanwhile were allowed to pass with reduced speed. The water police Deggendorf and the shipping authority Straubing proceeded for investigations. There was no decision yet whether the ship would have to be lightered before being refloated.
