Two crew members died due to methanol alcohol consume

Around Apr 29, 2019, two crew members of the "Vasiliy Golovnin"died of poisoning, assumedly by methanol alcohol. The ship was on the way to Cape Tow, ETA May 4, after an Antarctic voyage during which it had delivered supplies and replacement researchers teams to the Indian Antarctic scientific bases Bharati and Maitri. One of deceased was an AB, the other one was a turner. Their bodies were to be transported to Russia from Cape Town. An investigation into their death was pending.

FESCO vessel completed loading in Cape Town and went to Antarctica

On January 26, 2019 FESCO diesel-electric ship “Vasiliy Golovnin” left the port of Cape Town (Republic of South Africa) and started the project of supplying the Indian research stations in Antarctica till April 2019, FESCO says in a press release. From 13 till 25 January, 2019 the diesel-electric ship loaded 1 066 tons of cargoes, including equipment, fuel and food. In addition to delivery of necessary goods, the vessel will provide the export of household and technical waste from the stations. On board of FESCO ice-breaker cargo ship there are two helicopters for ice aerial reconnaissance and a self-propelled barge for unloading onto an unequipped coast. Also “Vasiliy Golovnin” is to deliver to Antarctica a new shift of Indian polar explorers, who will change the researchers working at the stations now.

FESCO completes supplying the Argentine Research Stations in Antarctica

On March 11, 2016 the diesel-electric ship «Vasiliy Golovnin» (FESCO Transportation Group) finished the work on the project of supplying the Argentine research stations under the tender of the Argentine Ministry of Defense, says FESCO. The voyage to Antarctica lasted 37 days. About 8500 tons of cargo was delivered to the polar stations (food, fuel, scientific equipment) with the help of two helicopters and self-propelled barges. In addition, the ship has provided the export of household and technical waste.
