Master medevaced off Margate

Thu Jan 17 11:51:52 CET 2013 Timsen

Margate’s RNLI lifeboat has been in action on Jan 16, 2013, bringing ashore an injured seafarer from athe "Viking Odessa" which was anchored off the north Kent coast. The Coastguard at Dover wascontacted around lunchtime by the vehicle carrier which was at the Tongue anchorage around seven miles north of Margate. The ship’s Ukrainian master had been suffering from a leg injury and medical advice was requested. After the ship spoke directly with a doctor ashore it was recommended that the master be brought ashore for medical attention. The assistance of Margate’s all-weather lifeboat was requested and was soon underway to the vessel. A local paramedic, a member of the lifeboat’s crew, was also on board the lifeboat. Once alongside the vessel, the casualty was embarked onto the lifeboat and brought back to Margate where he was handed into the care of the South East Coast Ambulance Service and taken to QEQM Hospital in Margate.
