Super trawler broke down

Mon Mar 21 10:44:19 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Willem Van der Zwan - SCH 302" broke down off the Irish coast and was towed to IJmuiden by the Dutch trawler "Alida - SCH 6" (IMO:8224418) on Mar 13, 2016. On Mar 16 the super trawler berthed at Shipdock Amsterdam for repairs.

Medevac off Valentia island

Tue Mar 08 11:56:59 CET 2016 Timsen

A fisherman who became ill aboard the "Willem van der Zwan" was medevaced in the afternoon of Mar 7, 2016, 170 nautical miles west of Valentia Island to the Kerry General Hospital. The Waterford rescue helicopter refuelled in Kerry Airport before continuing towards the trawler which was just inside the Irish search and rescue regio. He was hoisted and transported back to hospital in Tralee in an operation coordinated by the Valentia Coast Guard. Because the trawler was so far out to sea, another aircraft was required to provide top cover to the Waterford rescue helicopter, allowing it to maintain communications with the Coast Guard base.
