Cuban Coast Guard responsible for SAR operation

Thu Aug 31 13:06:42 CEST 2023 Timsen

After a passenger went overboard the 'Wonder of the Seas' off the coast of Cuba on Aug 29 at around 7:30-8 p.m., the cruise line had been working with the US Coast Guard. However, the Cuban Border Guard is responsible for coordinating the search and rescue mission because the incident happened in Cuban territorial seas. The US agency is not currently involved in the case. The ship was two days into its seven-day itinerary after it left Port Canaveral, Florida, and had already diverted from its original itinerary to account for Hurricane Idalia, which is pummeling Florida with record-breaking storm surge this week. The ship's crew spent approximately three hours searching for the passenger before the vessel moved on.

Man fell over board off Santigo, search aborted after medical emergency

Wed Aug 30 10:40:32 CEST 2023 Timsen

On Aug 29, 2023, shortly after 8:00 p.m. a man overboard was reported on ther 'Wonder of the Seas' south of Santigo, Cuba, en route to Cozumel during dinner time. Th person jumped or fell from deck 11 at port side. There were spotlights and a boat was launched for searching. The captain announced a search operation following an Oscar call. The ship turned south to search for the missing person. The guests were advised of the situation. The conditions in the area were three-foot swells and light winds. The search yielded no results as the ship was rerouted from Cozumel to Grand Cayman due to a medical emergency on board at 11:30 p.m. Due to the hurricane Idalia, the 'Wonder of the Seas' changed the original Western Caribbean voyage and is now sailing a modified itinerary.

World's greatest cruise ship overbooked

Wed Mar 08 10:30:01 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Wonder of the Seas' is overbooked on the cruise that leaves on March 12. According to an email sent to passengers with tickets for the cruise, the overbooking is due to a calculation error. The email states: "We regret to inform you that due to an unexpected inventory error your scheduled 'Wonder of the Seas' sailing on March 12, 2023 is currently overbooked". The cruise was to last seven days and go to St. Kitts, St. Thomas, CocoCay, which is the shipping company's private island in the Bahamas. The passengers were offered an almost equivalent cruise with the 'Explorer of the Seas'. In addition to this option, guests also receive a $300 voucher to use on the cruise. Passengers can also choose to travel at a later date and have the original journey fully reimbursed.
