Damaged tanker enroute to breakers in Aliaga

The 'Yakamoz-5' which had suffered a fire in the engine room at Yenkapi Roads on March 6, 2014, has been sold to breakers after it turned out that repairs would be too expensive. The tug 'RM 1002' (MMSI: 271001173) was tasked to tow the vessel from Pendik to Aliaga scrapyard. The towing operation commenced on Feb 2, 2021 and ended on the inner anchorage on Feb 5.

Fire on tanker off Yenikapi

On Mar 6, 2014, at 11.50 a.m. a fire broke out aboard the "Yakamoz. 5" The fire started in the vessel's engine room and quickly spread to the superstructure. The tanker was anchored on Yenikapi roads near Istanbul in the Marmara sea. The lifeboats "Kiyi Emniyeti 4" and "Kiyi Emnieti 5" as well as the tugs "Kurtama 6" and "Kurtama 7" were dispatched to the ship and started fire fighting operations. The crew of six was taken off, one of whom had suffered non life-threatening injuries. The ship had 240 tons of diesel fuel on board as well as 145 tons other oil.
