Repairs of cable damage completed

On Oct 21 at 10.20 a.m. the "AIDAaura" left the port of Mindelo after repairs were completed. The next port of call was Salvador de Bahia in Brazil with an ETA as of Oct 25. Technicians among the crew of 391 along with experts which had been deployed by the Fleet Operations Center in Hamburg and arrived by plane from Germany had repaired the cable damage which had interrupted the power supply of the main galley in the stern of the ship and the relevant generatos within only four days. Step by step the systems were started again. In the morning of Oct 21 captain Sven Laudan informed the 1159 passengers that the ship was ready to sail again, and short time later the vessel headed with full speed towards Salvador da Bahia in Brasilien, where it was expected to arrive three days behind schedule now. During the world cruise there was enough space to get back to the planned schedule again during the forthcoming days with all engines working at full power. In the morning of Oct 16, 2018, the "Aidaaura" suffered a damage at cables of its generators on the Atlantic. As the crew was unable to fix the damage, support was requested from Germany. The main galley was not working any more. As the four main engines remained operating, the ship headed to the Cape Verdes after a short stop and berthed in on Oct 17 at 5.15 p.m. In port technicians from Germany went aboard and started repairs, while spare parts were underway. The 1.000 passengers were fed in local restaurants in Mindelo. The route will be adjusted in accordance with the progress of the repairs to the cable system. The ship had started a 117-days-world cruise from Hamburg on Oct 8. Next scheduled stop was Rio de Janeiro on Oct 24.
