Ferry allided with berth in St. Helier

Fri Jul 05 09:56:42 CEST 2024 Timsen

The ferry service from Jersey had to delay its crossing overnight due to an alliision of the 'Condor Islander' with the berth in St. Helier harbour upon Jersey on July 3, 2024. The Elizabeth East Berth was damaged, and the extent of the damage was still being assessed. The vessel's departure to Guernsey and Portsmouth was delayed after the ship's starboard side scraped the east berth on arrival. The ship was assessed by engineers and remained stationary in Jersey until July 4 at 9.30 a.m. The Jersey Hospitality Association provided more than 100 passengers with hotel rooms late on the night, including 53 young school children and their six teachers. Freight shipments were placed onto other vessels.

Former Cook Strait ferry due to leave Wellington en route to Europe

Tue Apr 18 12:44:05 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Condor Islander', formerly the Cook Strait ferry 'Straitsman', was due to leave Wellington on April 18, 2023, at midday. The Bluebridge ferry was sold to Condor Ferries in the UK, where it will ply the Portsmouth to Channel Islands route. The ship will take seven weeks to get to Europe, via the Panama Canal and Atlantic Ocean. The first stop for the ferry en route to the northern hemisphere will be Papeete. When it arrives in Europe, the 'Condor Islander' will enter dry dock for two months before entering service in the third quarter of this year. The ferry was sold on April 3 after plying the Cook Strait since 2010.
